Area school teacher members of NZEI Te Riu Roa have voted to reject the latest terms of settlement for their Collective Agreement from the Ministry of Education, citing its terms as not good enough.
The proposed deal would have seen members receive pay rises of 4.7 per cent over two years.
Their rejection follows other recent “no” votes from primary teachers, primary principals, teacher aides, administration staff, librarians, kaiārahi i te reo, therapists, science technicians and other school staff.

NZEI Te Riu Roa has informed the Ministry of Education of the outcome of the ballot.
While PPTA Te Wehengarua members voted to accept the terms of settlement, the rejection by NZEI Te Riu Roa members means the offer has not been ratified. As a result, all parties – NZEI Te Riu Roa, PPTA Te Wehengarua, and the Ministry – will now return to the bargaining table.
