The Treasury Schools Challenge 2018 winners announced

Christchurch Girls High and Diocesan School for Girls took out the awards for Best Overall Team and Best Overall Individual respectively.

Able to enter as teams or individuals, entrants were asked to take on the role of an analyst developing a briefing to the Tax Working Group. Their briefing was required to contain three policy

changes that would promote a fairer tax system in New Zealand. Entries could be made in the form of a 2000 word essay, an A3 poster or a 5-minute video presentation.

  • Prizes were also awarded to the best individual and team in each category of entry:
  • Best Individual Essay: Hamilton Boys High
  • Best Individual A3 Poster: Rotorua Lakes High School
  • Best Individual Video: Diocesan School for Girls
  • Best Team Essay: Christchurch Girls High
  • Best Team A3 Poster: Rotorua Lakes High School
  • Best Team Video: James Hargest College

The best overall students have won themselves a $500 electronics voucher and a $2000 scholarship to Victoria University. The best of class entrants receive a $500 electronics voucher and a $1000 scholarship to Victoria University.

The winning students will attend a prize-giving event at the Treasury later this week, where they will be given the opportunity to discuss their entries with staff.
