With Ministry of Education funding now available, specialist teachers in schools receiving the Year 0–2 staffing allocation can access the Learning MATTERS Intervention Teaching (LMIT) certification. This is a valuable opportunity for teachers to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their practice, and enhance structured literacy intervention within their school setting.
The LMIT certification was developed specifically for educators supporting learners who need structured literacy intervention. It holds Accreditation Plus status with the International Dyslexia Association (IDA)—the first course in Australasia to achieve this. This means the training meets the IDA’s internationally recognised Knowledge and Practice Standards: peer-reviewed guidelines for effective structured literacy instruction. This accreditation ensures our training meets international standards and remains subject to regular review as the science and practice of literacy instruction continue to evolve.
The LMIT course offers more than just professional development—it’s a chance to deepen expertise, strengthen practice, and make a measurable difference for the students who need it most.
We support educators to deepen their understanding of structured literacy, the science of reading, and the science of learning. This includes learning how to assess, plan, and deliver targeted interventions for ākonga with dyslexia and other learning differences. With personalised coaching and practical feedback, LMIT participants build the confidence and capability to respond to learner needs with clarity and intent.
Educators are supported from day one. Our facilitators deliver the initial face-to-face training, while our experienced coaches provide ongoing guidance throughout the practicum via observations, personalised feedback, and coaching sessions.
The impact of LMIT training is best shared by those who’ve experienced it. These educators speak about the learning, and the transformation—not only in their own teaching practice, but in the outcomes they’re seeing for their students.
The LMIT certification is not tied to any single programme or product. Instead, it empowers educators to apply their knowledge across a range of evidence-aligned resources—enabling them to make informed decisions based on the unique needs of the ākonga in front of them.
