New Zealand has one of the worst drowning fatalities in the OECD, with a decade-high of 90 preventable deaths occurring last year alone.
A number of free resources have been uploaded to their website, including their “Float First” water safety campaign aimed at equipping New Zealanders with water safety survival skills and lowering our preventable drowning rate.
Tasmin O’Sullivan from DPA says the message is “relevant for everyone to learn – if you are in trouble in the water, Float First!”
Educators and other community facilitators looking to get involved in World Drowning Prevention Day can sign up to “go blue” at the DPA website to raise awareness for drowning prevention. Free learning materials are available for distribution, and DPA is running social media campaigns. For more information on getting involved, click here.
