As part of learning about the importance of water, children from south Auckland will soon be taking part in an educational initiative, Water for Life – Cool, Clear, Clean.
Children will learn how their actions help or harm streams, harbours and sea, responsible disposal of litter, the impact of urban pollution on our waterways and the importance of trees for shading of creatures who live in waterways.
The programme, facilitated by the Manukau Beautification Trust, will cater to 1500 students on 5th-7th April and will include water games, activities and arts and craft. The event culminates in a free Family Day at the Auckland Botanic Gardens on Saturday, 9th April to which organisers expect more than 8,000 visitors.
All primary schools in the Auckland Southern region have been invited to the Water for Life programme, and the Family Day is open to the wider community.
The trust is also running a series of school competitions including wearable arts (primary through to high school), cookery and creative art. All competitions have high value cash prizes for winners, and will showcase their work at the Family Day.
