The Wellsford Rotary Club has supported the return visit to this community where the school’s vision is to prepare their students for a future that fulfils their individual potential.
The mobile kitchen’s focus is on a community of Kids Feeding Themselves and they will be using seasonal produce from the school gardens and cooking with over 350 students during the day.
The parent programme theme is ‘Supa Foods for your Supa Kids’ and it is a fun, interactive cooking class offering nutritious food choices for lunch and dinner time. It includes lots of tasty seasonal food tips and money-saving tricks for the whole family.
After scrubbing down the kitchen benches at Wellsford School the mobile kitchen will be heading south to visit Hauraki Plains College, Aorangi School Rotorua, Te Amawatu School, Lytton High School, Wairoa College, Raureka School in Hastings, LindisFarne College Napiar, Te Awa School Napiar and Roslyn School Palmerston North.
Over the last two years they have travelled nationwide from Southland to the Far North cooking with over 45,000 students in over 300 schools from small rural schools and large city schools. They cater to primary, intermediate and secondary schools and tailor the message to suit the age groups with younger classes focusing on fun and getting involved, and older children on what is in our food, McDonald’s, energy drinks and healthy options.
