Thousands raised for Barnados families from Round the Bays run

SND13-WK3-Barnardos ROB team 300x225Children and families supported by Barnardos were the winners on the day of the Ports of Auckland Round the Bays run this year.

Barnardos general manager child and family services, Mike Munnelly, says Barnardos was delighted by the level of support received for those taking part in the event.

“More than 32 of our staff and supporters joined the 30,000 plus crowd of people who ran, walked or wheeled over the 8.4km course.

“Donations are still coming in but so far our runners have raised close to $12,000.

“Alongside that, staff from Milford Asset Management also ran for us. They have raised $5,700 and Milford Asset Management have very generously said they will match that dollar for dollar.”

Milford are a leading sponsor of the Barnardos’ children’s helpline, 0800 What’s Up, and the Round the Bays event provided them with the perfect opportunity to further show their support for vulnerable New Zealand children, managing director, Milford Asset Management, Anthony Quirk says.

“The Round the Bays race was a great day for us and a fantastic way to showcase our support for 0800 What’s Up. We are pleased with the times we ran but far more proud of the support we are able to provide such a worthy cause. The excellent amount of money raised by our staff will be matched by a corporate donation from Milford.”

In addition to the funds raised by individual runners, Barnardos was also one of the event’s five official charities, and so will receive a further $20,000.

“That means in total Barnardos’ vital services will receive more than $40,000 from the event. This is a wonderful gift that will directly benefit our most vulnerable children,” Mr Munnelly says.

“We’re very grateful to all those who took part and we look forward to an even bigger and better event in 2016.”
